Information SessionsAs one of the services available through the Information Centre, EEPCO organises sessions on various subjects related to life as a Polish migrant in the United Kingdom. The topics were discussed and chosen by those that attended the 'English tea in Polish event', which was held in February of this year. The first session, entitled 'The Education System in the UK, Help for Parents', was held on 19th April. The meeting was ran by Marta Maj, chair of EEPCO (who is also working on the Parent Support Advisers project for Cambridgeshire County Council), and Tom Wlodarski (a former assistant teacher at a secondary school in Peterborough). An employee from Cambridgeshire County Council was also invited to answer questions asked by parents, mainly concerning the various examination levels in the English education system. Attendees of the event expressed very positive opinions about the meeting. The second meeting of this kind was held in June and was devoted to benefits. Monika Wodecka, an employee of Essex District Council, explained how the Social Security system functioned in the United Kingdom. At the end of her presentation, Monika responded to many questions asked by attendees of the meeting. Another information session entitled 'Housing: Problems With Renting a House & Associated Issues' will be held in October of this year. The meeting will have a slightly revised format inasmuch as anyone interested in the topic will be able to arrange an individual meeting with a Housing Adviser from Cambridge City Council. Translation will be available if required. If you have any suggestions for topics to be discussed in forthcoming information sessions, please email Marta Maj at
